چکیده

Bloom of Dunaliella salina was observed naturally in stagnant puddles of water off Kuwait's Bubiyan Island on 4 July 2004. In order to closely monitor this bloom, alga were collected and maintained as pure culture of the locally isolated D. salina. Set of experiments was conducted to study and evaluate the optimum culture conditions required for two samples of D. salina (one locally isolated and the other sample brought from Perth, Australia) to achieve the highest growth performance. J. Algal Biomass Utln. 2010, 1 (2): 12-19 Optimum culture conditions for Dunaliella salina 13 The results of the experiments showed that both samples of D. salina preferred high salinities (45 psu), low temperatures (20oC), phosphate concentrations of 30 g m -3 d -3 , high light intensities (18x10 3 lux), and high pH levels of up to 9.18 (without using CO2 gas), for their optimum growth.

Carotene and Antioxidant Capacity of Dunaliella Salina Strains

Beta-carotene is a terpenoid pigment that is highly valuable due to its nutritional benefit as a precursor of vitamin A and its antioxidant properties. A marine green alga Dunaliella salina is well known for high carotene, with above 95% β-carotene, under growth-limiting conditions. Carotene contents are different among D. salina strains and under different culture conditions. Selecting a Dunal...

Potential of new isolates of Dunaliella salina

The halotolerant microalga Dunaliella salina has been widely studied for natural 10 β-carotene production. This work shows biochemical characterization of three newly isolated 11 Dunaliella salina strains DF15, DF17 and DF40 compared with D. salina CCAP 19/30 (confirmed to 12 be D. tertiolecta) and D. salina UTEX 2538 (also known as D. bardawil). Although all three new strains 13 have been gene...

Effects of Salinity and Light on Growth of Dunaliella Isolates

Dunaliella salina, halotorelant unicellular green algae, is the main natural source of beta-carotene. Several strains of local Dunaliella salina were isolated. Together with Dunaliella bardawil DCCBC 15 and Dunaliella salina CCAP 19/18, the strains were examined for their growth under the effects of salinities (1 M, 1.5 M and 2 M) and light intensities (50, 100 and 150 μmol photon/m/s). The res...

The Carotenogenesis Pathway via the Isoprenoid-β-carotene Interference Approach in a New Strain of Dunaliella salina Isolated from Baja California Mexico

D. salina is one of the recognized natural sources to produce beta-carotene, and an useful model for studying the role of inhibitors and enhancers of carotenogenesis. However there is little information in D. salina regarding whether the isoprenoid substrate can be influenced by stress factors (carotenogenic) or selective inhibitors which in turn may further contribute to elucidate the early st...
